Framing your finished embroidery can be a great way to display and preserve your work. Here are the steps to frame your embroidery:
- Choose a frame that will fit your embroidery. Make sure the frame is large enough to accommodate the entire embroidery with a bit of extra space around the edges.
- Cut a piece of mat board or mounting board to fit inside the frame. Use a ruler and an X-acto knife to cut the board to the appropriate size.
- Place the embroidery face down on a flat surface. Center the board on the back of the embroidery and use small pieces of tape to secure the embroidery to the board.
- Cut away any excess fabric or backing material that extends beyond the edges of the board.
- Cut a piece of acid-free backing board to the same size as the mounting board. Place the backing board on top of the embroidery, making sure it’s centered.
- Cut a piece of acid-free foam board to the same size as the backing board. Place the foam board on top of the backing board.
- Carefully flip the entire stack over so that the embroidery is now face-up on top of the foam board.
- Use acid-free tape to attach the embroidery to the foam board. Make sure the embroidery is taut and smooth.
- Place the mounted embroidery into the frame, making sure it’s centered. Secure the backing board to the frame using framing points or clips.
- Replace the back of the frame and secure it in place.
And that’s it! You now have a professionally framed embroidery ready to display. Be sure to keep the embroidery out of direct sunlight and in a cool, dry place to preserve it for years to come.
